Letters For Little Heroes — Section 5: Problem / Solution

What kind of person is your child becoming?

The Problem

You've told them. It didn't stick.

You've told them to be honest. You've told them to be kind. You've told them a hundred times to do the right thing — and somehow it still doesn't take.

Children don't do what you say. They model what they see and feel.

Rules teach compliance. They don't teach character.

The Solution

Give them a hero worth becoming.

Letters for Little Heroes brings history's greatest figures straight to your door — true stories of courage, honesty, and wisdom, told the way your child will actually want to hear them.

Once a month, that's around fifteen minutes together reading — and often the start of a conversation that carries on for days. A story, a virtue, and a real moment of connection.

Character isn't taught. It's caught.

Letters For Little Heroes — Section 7: Founder Story
A growing collection of Letters For Little Heroes letters

Why We Created Little Heroes

A mother and father who wanted better heroes for their own children.

We're a small family business — lifelong readers, and parents to a boy and a girl. We wanted to share our love of stories with them: the kind with a real moral core, like The Lord of the Rings.

Since we believe raising children of virtue isn't just the right thing to do, it's also the surest path to a life that actually flourishes, we now write the stories we wish existed.

Letters For Little Heroes — Section 11: FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Questions parents ask us most

What age is this suitable for?

Letters For Little Heroes is written for children aged 5 to 13 — a range chosen to match how children's understanding of right and wrong develops, from simple ideas of fairness to more nuanced reflection on courage, honesty, and sacrifice. Younger children (roughly 5–7) get the most out of it read aloud together; from around age 8 upward, most children can read it independently, though plenty of families keep reading together anyway — it tends to become the best part of the ritual.

Do I need to read it with my child, or can they read it alone?

Either works. Each letter is written to be read aloud just as easily as read independently. For younger children, we'd recommend reading together — it turns the letter into a shared moment rather than solo homework, and gives you a natural way to talk about the story afterwards.

Are the stories appropriate for children? Some of this is real history, including war and loss.

Yes — we don't shy away from real history, but we handle it with care. A story like Balian's siege of Jerusalem or Marcus Aurelius's plague and grief is told honestly, without being frightening or graphic. These are exactly the moments that make a virtue meaningful — children learn courage by seeing someone face something hard, not by being protected from the idea that hard things exist.

Where do you deliver, and how long does it take?

We post from the United Kingdom by Royal Mail, and deliver across the UK, the EU, and most of the world. UK letters usually arrive within the first week of the month. EU and international delivery takes a little longer and depends on your local postal service — postage is calculated automatically at checkout based on your location.

What's the cost of postage & packaging?

Postage depends on your location and is calculated automatically at checkout. We aim to charge only the actual cost of the stamp — nothing more.

Are the letters written for boys and girls?

Yes. Our letters are written for heroes and heroines alike — the roster includes figures like Florence Nightingale and Marcus Aurelius, and we're always adding more.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes, anytime. You can cancel from the account management area of the site — there's no minimum commitment on the monthly plan.

Do you accept returns?

We don't accept returns, since each letter is a personalised keepsake once it's opened. If you're ever unhappy, you're free to cancel your subscription at any time.
